Nottingham Forest midfielder Danilo has suffered a horror injury after just eight minutes versus Bournemouth, leaving teammates looking distraught.

The Brazilian clashed with Antoine Semenyo in the center of the pitch before appearing to land awkwardly on his ankle. The pair had challenged for the ball in the air as Semenyo emerged unscathed but a stretcher was quickly readied for his opponent, whose foot gave out when landing from the jump.

A lengthy stoppage followed as Michael Oliver urgently called for assistance and Danilo raised his own hand towards his bench. Security raised Forest flags to surround him as he was helped by the medical team in the center of the field.

The Forest star raised his thumbs before being placed onto the stretcher. Both sides had congregated around their respective dugouts while Danilo was treated.

The 23-year-old was applauded off the field at the City Ground and was replaced by Ryan Yates after 15 minutes. Despite the difficult circumstances surrounding his arrival on the pitch, Yates was able to have a quick impact.

The midfielder saw his close-range effort saved by Neto for Chris Wood to convert and give Nottingham Forest the lead after 22 minutes. The Cherries wasted little time in hitting back through Dango Ouattara but VAR cancelled out his goal for offside.

Danilo arrived at Nottingham Forest in January 2023 in a deal said to be worth £18million. Signing a six-and-a-half year deal, he has become an important player in the Midlands and scored six goals and made four assists across 49 appearances.

This summer has seen Danilo receive links to Manchester United, with the Red Devils looking to strengthen in the centre of the pitch. A £34m fee has been pitched for his services having also drawn interest from AC Milan.

While Forest would have been hopeful of retaining his services, the injury suffered on Saturday afternoon would appear to end any plans of a transfer. Danilo however, had big plans for what he wanted to achieve at the City Ground.

"I have another five years on my contract and I can help the club to develop more," Danilo said earlier this summer. “It is already a big club; one with a proud history. Next season will be better. We will not be fighting to remain in the Premier League . We will be higher up the table. We can continue to grow.

"Villa and Brighton represent good examples for us. We should make that our ambition – to be challenging to play in Europe."
