Tom Brady picks two teams who can threaten Patrick Mahomes and Kansas City Chiefs

Tom Brady has earmarked the San Francisco 49ers and the Green Bay Packers as the biggest threats to the quest of the Kansas City Chiefs to achieve a Super Bowl three-peat.

The reigning victors have triumphed in the NFL's illustrious showpiece in three out of the last four years, with superstars Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce leading the charge. With head coach Andy Reid overseeing the development of a modern-day dynasty, it remains to be seen whether the Chiefs can be toppled in the coming campaign.

Even the all-conquering New England Patriots team led by Bill Belichick during the first two decades of the century were unable to win the Super Bowl three times in a row, however. With this in mind, retired quarterback Brady - the Patriots' talisman from that period - firstly admitted that he sees the Bills and the Bengals as a threat to KC's supremacy in the AFC.

Speaking during a conversation with Stephen A. Smith, the iconic seven-time Super Bowl winner felt that the strength of the quarterbacks for both teams could put them in contention to trouble the Chiefs. He said: "I would say it's, man all those teams are going to be tough, I think it's still the Bills or the Bengals because of their quarterback play.

"They are right up there. They are exceptional. The Ravens just have to do more in the postseason for me to feel like okay, they are right there. The Bengals have made it to a Super Bowl. The Bills have been in championship games."

As for strongest teams in the NFL overall apart from the Chiefs, he said: "I think it's still probably the 49ers and the Packers, I think, are going to be a great team. I think the Rams are going to be a good team, too. Very good offense, receiving corps.

"They lost Aaron Donald, nobody can replace him but they've drafted really well, got a really underrated defense. I think that's going to be a team to watch, too."

Meanwhile, Brady acknowledged that he feels three-time Super Bowl victor Mahomes is the best talent in the quarterback position in the league currently. He said: "In my opinion, he's the best quarterback in the NFL. I could talk about his physical skills, but do you know why I look at him and I say he's great?

"I see the way that he's endeared himself to his teammates. I see the joy they have when they're out there playing together... I'm listening to the press conferences as much as I'm watching him throw a tight spiral. That's ultimately what that position is about."

The Chiefs will kick-off their season versus the Baltimore Ravens on Sept. 6 as they look to create history this campaign by becoming the first NFL team to win the Super Bowl three years in a row. Their next outing will come against the Bengals nine days later on Sept. 15.
