A desperate search is underway for a killer after the body of a newborn baby was found in front of an industrial plant near Houston on Tuesday.

The baby was found partially clothed in a ditch by a lawn crew working by the concrete industrial plant in the 15000 block of Henry Road in Aldine, a neighborhood in the northern portion of Houston about 12 miles north of downtown.

According to Maj. John Nanny of the Harris County Sheriff's Office, the call detailing the discovery came at approximately 2 p.m. The authorities raced to the scene and found the corpse in the ditch and began attempting to determine how it got there, how the child died and what could have happened to its parents.

The medical examiner was set to collect the body to conduct an autopsy so that the authorities can garner more information about how the baby died, which might point them in the direction of where the parents are or what happened to it, according to Click2Houston .

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez wrote in an update on X that deputies responded to the scene at the aforementioned location. "A deceased newborn infant was discovered in front of a concrete industrial plant. Investigators are en route to the scene." It was posted just before 3 p.m. CDT on Tuesday.

The discovery comes after another newborn was found dead recently in the city in a northwestern division of Harris County. A mother appeared to have dumped her child in a trash can, which was then crushed in a garbage truck.

The remains of that baby were found last Wednesday, KTRK reported, and the sheriff's office eventually located the child's mother, who told the authorities she had been suffering from stomach pain before she gave birth and fainted.

Then, she realized the baby was unresponsive and dead. She reportedly told the authorities she became scared and discarded the corpse of the child. It's not clear whether that account was confirmed by the medical examiner.

"There apparently has been somewhat of an epidemic on this lately," Maj. Nany told the publication. "There's been a few of these happen recently, so I'd like to mention the Moses Law — the Infant Safe Haven law that allows the mother or the parents to drop a child off at an EMS, fire department, a hospital confidentially to take care of the child."

Anyone with more information on Tuesday's incident was asked to call Crime Stoppers or the Harris County Sheriff's Office at 713-221-6000, Click2Houston reported.
