Stephen A Smith sends brutal message to Russell Wilson amid Pittsburgh Steelers struggles

    By Charlie Wilson,

Stephen A Smith has told Russell Wilson that he's 'beginning to p--- me off' after his struggles with the Pittsburgh Steelers throughout training camp.

Wilson had struggled in the team's preseason game against the Buffalo Bills , while he and fellow quarterback Justin Fields played the entire game with the offense scoring just three points.

Wilson and Fields were both brought to the Steelers this offseason after losing their starting places with the Denver Broncos and Chicago Bears, respectively, with the two in a quarterback battle for the starting job. This had come after head coach Mike Tomlin initially named Wilson the starter, before his training camp and injury struggles led to the battle being wide open once again.

After both failed to impress in the preseason game with the Bills, failing to find the endzone while playing a vast majority of their starters against the Bills back-up defensive unit, many begun to question how badly the team's offense could struggle this year.

On Wednesday, Wilson responded to those who might have questions in stating why he is not concerned - something ESPN personality Smith, a diehard Steelers fan, has taken issue with.

Speaking on First Take on Thursday, Smith interjected when host Molly Qerim asked Dan Orlovsky a question as he could not hold back his anger.

He said: "I am going to say this on national television.... Russell Wilson, you are beginning to p--- me off. Somebody had to say it so I'm gonna say it. Russ, you stunk last year. You were paid $37.5 million dollars to go away. The Broncos are willing to eat that money to get rid of you.

"You are fighting for a starting job with Justin Fields, it ain't Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson... it's Justin Fields! And he's sitting there with some smile on his face... talking about how everybody needs to relax... you ain't Aaron Rodgers! You don't get to say that!

"The only damn thing you brought to Denver was Ciara (his wife). You are fighting for your career, act like it Russell Wilson. You're competing for the damn job."

As Smith alluded to, the Broncos decided to cut Wilson just three years into a five-year contract, after giving up four high draft picks in a mega-trade to acquire him from the Seattle Seahawks - where he had been a nine-time Pro Bowler while winning a Super Bowl and losing another.

Wilson has mightily struggled since leaving Seattle, with the Steelers hoping to get the best out of him in their new offensive system - as he looks to be the starter over Fields.
