CeeDee Lamb contract details emerge as Dallas Cowboys spend big on new deal

The long standoff between the Dallas Cowboys, Jerry Jones, and star Ceedee Lamb is finally over: ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the wide receiver is signing a massive four-year, $136 million contract with the team.

    The contract makes the 2023 First-team All-Pro the second-highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL .

Lamb , 25, is coming off a historic season for the Cowboys : his 1,749 receiving yards were not only second in the league in 2023, but they were also the most by any Dallas player in a single season .

The 2020 first-round pick also shattered the team's single-season receptions record. His 135 catches in 2023 were 24 more than Pro Football Hall of Famer Michael Irvin managed in 1995.

Lamb was set to play out the $17.99 million fifth-year option of his rookie deal for the 2024 season but had remained away from the team since OTAs began .

While Lamb's absence attracted a media service, it's not uncommon for star players entering the fifth year of their rookie contract to hold out and seek a long-term extension.

Team owner Jerry Jones always emphasized there was "no urgency" to get a deal done with Lamb throughout the offseason. However, he seemed to change his tune when asked about his superstar receiver on Sunday night.

When asked by reporters if he had any updates on Lamb, he seemed mum : “I don’t have any updates, but we are near the season starting.”

Dallas's season kicks off in two weeks with a trip to Cleveland and a matchup with the Browns. When asked if a deal could get done before that game, Jones answered “I don’t even know what that is as far as opinion, OK?”

Securing Lamb will make quarterback Dak Prescott's life easier, as the team's receiving depth chart isn't exactly brimming with talent. Other wideouts include veteran Brandin Cooks alongside speedy youngsters Jalen Tolbert and KaVontae Turpin.

Jones and the Cowboys front office may turn their attention now to their star quarterback, who's set to become a free agent at the end of the 2024 campaign.

Lamb will now become the second-highest-paid receiver in the NFL behind only Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings. However, his $38 million signing bonus is the record for a wideout.

He's improved his output in each of his four seasons as a pro, from 935 yards in his rookie year to 1,102 in his second season, 1,359 in his third, and 1,749 in 2024.
