While Caitlin Clark may have lost for the first time since the WNBA season resumed following the Olympics , the Indiana Fever guard still managed to steal the show.

The Minnesota Lynx pushed their fourth-quarter lead to 10 with just under eight minutes to go in the contest. Clark took the inbounds pass and showcased a tremendous amount of calm.

The former Iowa star uncorked a three-quarter court bullet pas s to a wide-open Lexie Hull under the basket, cutting the lead to eight The pass was eerily reminiscent of LeBron James ' signature longballs to Dwayne Wade when the future Hall of Famers were teammates on the Miami Heat.

It wasn't enough, as the Fever fell 90-80 to the Lynx on a night when Clark's childhood hero Maya Moore had her jersey retired for Minnesota.

“She was the person for me, honestly. I remember that Lynx team better than anybody," Clark said of Moore . "As a young girl, obviously they were the closest WNBA team to me growing up, so it’s kind of who you root for, but they were also really good, so they were easy to root for.”

Clark played well, scoring 23 points on 8-18 shooting with eight assists. She was outshined by two-time Olympic gold medalist Napheesa Collier , who poured in 31 for the Lynx.

Minnesota is one of the best teams in the league: they sit third in the WNBA standings with a 22-8 record and an impressive 14-3 mark at home.

Clark also got to connect with Moore, one of the greatest players in women's basketball history. Moore played with the Lynx from 2011-2018, winning four WNBA titles and the 2014 WNBA MVP award.

“Everything she does for the world is way cooler than what she did on the basketball court,” Clark continued about Moore, who was also a two-time NCAA Champion and four-time All-American at the University of Connecticut.

“She’s just such a great individual, a great person, and I know she finds even more joy and satisfaction in all the other things that she’s done off the court.”

Since the All-Star break, Clark has led the Fever to a 2-1 record and is averaging 25 points, nine assists, and five rebounds per contest.

The Fever sit with a 13-16 record that sees them in the seventh seed in an eight-team WNBA playoff picture . They are two and a half games ahead of the ninth-place Atlanta Dram.

Indiana will visit Atlanta in a pivotal matchup Monday night before they host the Connecticut Sun on Wednesday as the stretch run intensifies.
