The festival-goer who tragically died during opening day of Burning Man festival has been identified as 39-year-old Kendra Frazer.

Tragedy has already stuck within 24 hours at this years' Burning Man Festival , as one woman was found dead with her cause of death still unknown. During the first day of the nine-day-long festival , emergency services responded to a "report of an unresponsive individual" at 11:29am on Sunday.

While the Pershing County Sheriff's Office is conducting the investigation, the Washoe County Medical Examiner will run tests and determine her official cause of death, a process that could take months. Emergency responders performed life-saving measures on Kendra but were unsuccessful, the festival's organizers revealed in a statement.

Jerry Allen with the Pershing County Sheriff said in a statement: "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the decedent. This is the first reported death on the playa this year and unfortunately it has happened on day one."

The Nevada-based festival is offering 24/7 peer support services and a 24/7 crisis support team during the festival as they have faced a string of deaths in the past. In a statement, the organizers said: "It is with heavy hearts that Burning Man Project confirms the death of a participant in Black Rock City in Nevada's Black Rock Desert."

They continued: "Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends affected by this loss. The participant has been identified by the Pershing County Sheriff's Office. The safety and well-being of our staff and community are paramount. We are cooperating fully with local authorities as they investigate this incident. This comes as numerous past deaths have occurred during the festival over recent years as thousands gather for the music and arts festival in the desert sun. Some past deaths at the festival included 32-year-old Leon Reece from Truckee who died from drug intoxication in 2023, 68-year-old Tennessee Judge John Everett Williams who died of natural causes in 2022, and 41-year-old Joel Mitchell who died after running into the flaming Burning Man structure in 2018.

This year already an estimated 20,000 people have been seen on the playa as the festivities kick off. This years' Burning Man Festival will run from August 25 through September 2 and is expected to host more than 70,000 people.
