Released footage shows the moment an unruly American tourist kicked down an airplane door in a fit of rage as he wrestled with police and airport staff after he missed his flight.

According to the Colombian Air Workers Association, the passenger—whose identity has not been made public—went crazy at El Dorado International Airport in Bogotá on Friday after arriving late for his LATAM trip. He allegedly attacked the personnel after being informed that he couldn't board Flight 4090 to Cartagena.

He then allegedly made his way down the jet bridge and approached the closed aircraft. The insane traveler was captured on shocking video by a male passenger on board kicking the door in order to be allowed inside. "Don't you dare," he told a concerned flight crew member , "You just remain calm and breathe."

The passenger paced around and then struck an airplane window, with an airport employee waiting for police aid to arrive in the background. He kicked the door of the plane some more, then took his rage out on a wall with his open-toed sandal.

He kicked at the airplane door once again, almost shattering a control panel in the process, then he went up to the window and said, "I want to get in."

His peculiar actions continued as he crouched and pleaded, "Please let me in," while using one hand to hold his boarding pass and passport and the other to tap on the window. After being detained by police, airline staff, and security, the man was brought to an immigration office. During the hearing, he assaulted an agent, and he was subsequently deported.

"This disruptive passenger initially assaulted ground staff after being informed that the flight had already closed and he had arrived late," Daniel Gallo, president of the Colombian Air Workers Association, said in a statement. "He forcibly attempted to enter the boarding bridge and, failing to do so, punched the main door and windows of the aircraft."

Gallo pleaded with the Colombian government to think about passing tougher legislation to deal with disruptive travelers. "This man had aggressive behavior that put the staff and other travelers at risk, and he also did not comply with travel regulations," he said. "We continue to call on the National Government and Congress to take urgent and severe measures against these passengers, who are becoming more frequent every day."

There were more than 6,000 of these instances in 2021. Even though the numbers decreased in 2022, they are still more than ten times larger than they were decades earlier. There were 146 incidents of disruptive passengers on airplanes in 1995. The Federal Aviation Administration has received 1,944 reports in 2022.
