Had it not been for a string of bad luck with his car , Matthews, North Carolina resident Andrzej Kielbon would be $379,747 poorer today.

Andrzej had an appointment to have his car serviced at a local dealership on the morning of August 23. What should have been routine annoyance, that any owner of a car is all too familiar with, turned into Andrzej’s lucky day .

Andrzej said he woke up a little earlier than usual and explained he is not a regular lottery player . "I woke up a little too early. I would've never played if I didn't get up early," he said.

He said he killed time waiting for his appointment by playing the North Carolina Education Lottery’s online Bison Bonanza game. He was shocked when he won the lottery’s progressive jackpot of $379,747.

"I just play for fun," Andrzej said. "I didn't think it was real because I was still half asleep."

Andrzej said he will use the money to fix his car troubles, buying a new electric vehicle, and also splurging on a trip to Hawaii. Meanwhile, another North Carolina man just a few days prior had his own stroke of luck with the lottery.

Benny Murphy of Mebane, North Carolina said he had just purchased his new home 24 hours prior to him purchasing a Cash 5 drawing ticket that would net him almost $500,000 in winnings. "I closed on a house on Wednesday," Murphy said. "They made a joke about lower payments if I won the lottery."

Murphy purchased the ticket for $1 at the Quickmart on U.S. 70 West in Mebane. He says he plans on using the money to pay down his newly purchased home, saving for a fishing trip and contributing money to his savings account.

Cash 5 is one of six games that allows customers to purchase their ticket at retail stores or online using the lottery’s website or mobile app. "Congratulations. Wow. What a beautiful blessing," one person commented on the lottery’s website.

"You deserve it brother. Here's to many many more wins for you.” Many people know the old wise tail of “Murphy’s law” which states “anything that can go wrong will go wrong. But for the owners of a new Mebane home who are now almost $500,000 richer you could say that they had a bit of Murphy’s luck. Anything that can go right will go right.
