Kadarius Toney left with egg on his face by Kansas City Chiefs after taunting Giants

The Kansas City Chiefs are waiving receiver Kadarius Toney amid a flurry of moves as NFL teams look to pinch their rosters down to 53 players.

The team acquired the mercurial wideout midway through the 2022 season from the New York Giant s for a third and a sixth-round pick. He showed flashes of greatness but not enough for the Chiefs to retain his services.

The former Giant was always going to face an uphill battle to make the Kansas City roster after the team signed veteran Juju Smith-Schuster earlier this week. Toney did deliver some incredible moments for the Chiefs, namely in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl LVII against the Philadelphia Eagles.

Toney returned a punt for 65 yards and caught a touchdown to help Kansas City squeeze out a 38-35 victory. But he did not feature at all for the team as the Chiefs repeated as Super Bowl champions a year later.

Of course, the Toney rollercoaster also produced some incredible low moments. The former first-round pick dropped four passes in the Chiefs' 2023 Week 1 loss to the Detroit Lions, costing him a chance to emerge as the team's #1 receiver.

Toney couldn't help but chirp Giants fans and the city of New York ever since the team dumped him. The pettiness began when Toney removed two tattoos: one saying "GIANTS," and the other featuring the Statue of Liberty.

Months after winning Super Bowl LVII, Toney flaunted his Super Bowl ring on camera and flipped a middle finger to a camera. “This is for everybody in New York right here," he boasted .

After his drops in Detroit, Toney deleted his Twitter. He resurfaced on social media a few days later to troll the Giants, who were just pummelled 40-0 by the rival Dallas Cowboys. "Na don't get quiet now...." his story said , featuring a picture of the scoreboard.

Ironically, New York's offense performed better with a skeleton core receiving crew after trading Toney in 2022. Journeymen Isaiah Hodgins and Richie James effectively served as the team's top two targets on the outside as the Giants made the playoffs for the first time since 2016.

In all, Toney totaled 320 receiving yards in 20 games with the Chiefs. He caught three passes for 22 yards during Kansas City's 2024 preseason.

Kansas City declined his rookie fifth-year option earlier this offseason, setting the gears in motion to facilitate his release months ago.

Toney isn't the only big name to be cut on Tuesday. The Falcons released quarterback Desmond Ridder, the Patriots released Baily Zappe, and the Eagles let C.J. Uzomah go.
