Russell Wilson immediately given huge scare after Justin Fields decision

Russell Wilson received less-than-stellar injury news just days before the start of the 2024 NFL season.

On Wednesday, it was reported that starting guard Isaac Seumalo left the Pittsburgh Steelers' practice session after sustaining an apparent injury. There were reports that Seumalo injured his pectoral muscle, which could cause the 30-year-old to miss the entire season, if the injury was severe enough.

However, it appears the Steelers and their fans can breathe a sigh of relief after it was revealed Seumalo's injury would not be season-ending. NFL Network reported that Seumalo is expected to miss at least four weeks, which remains a blow but will be a relief after the scare.

In simplest terms, a strain is when a muscle or tendon is stretched too much and tears and pectoral injuries are classified into three grades of strains: One, two or three. Grade 1 pectoral strains can heal in about three weeks, according to Rehab Hero .

Meanwhile, a Grade 2 strain could take anywhere between four and eight weeks to fully heal, with both Grade 1 and 2 strains not requiring surgery. Lastly, a Grade 3 strain often requires surgery which could cause a player to take up to six months or longer to fully heal from the injury.

Because of the reported time Seumalo is expected to miss, it could be presumed the 30-year-old suffered a Grade 2 pectoral strain. This latest blow to the Steelers' offensive line is just the latest in unfortunate developments, considering center Nate Herbig was placed on the IR after suffering a torn rotator cuff injury.

"Nate's got an injury that's being continually evaluated," Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said when asked about Herbig's status after Pittsburgh's matchup with the Buffalo Bills , per ESPN . "I think he's getting a second opinion. I want to wait to that. I'll give you guys some information probably the next time we come together, but I was largely satisfied with the work that I saw from Zach [Frazier]."

With both Seumalo and Herbig set to miss time to start the season, Wilson, who Tomlin named the Week 1 starter, will have his work cut out for him. Wilson already will have to find a way to get the Steelers' offense going , considering Pittsburgh lost all three of their preseason matchups.

Still, when reporters pressed on how he felt knowing the Steelers were a work in progress , Wilson gave a two-word response. "Absolutely not," the veteran signal called replied when asked if he was worried about the team.

"Because the reason being, as I told you guys, is the level of practices we’ve had against one of the best defenses every day and how we’ve shown up there. So I think the best thing that we can do is just slow our minds down, play really clean football, and also to enjoy the process, man.

"There's a lot going on there. We've had a really good camp, but the reality is, when we've got in there in the lights, we found a way to – and this is taking nothing away from the other defense – but we got to get out of our own way. Those are the things we have to clean up."

Meanwhile, backup quarterback Justin Fields shared how he is taking everything in stride, despite being demoted, stating : “I think I’ve shown what I can do ... I think we grew a lot each and every day, but at the end of the day, it’s not up to me. I mean, I’m just going to come in here every day, each and every day, the same person, being a leader for this team and work my butt off, and everything else will be handled.”
