Tom Brady faces special rules as NFL broadcaster due to conflict of interest

Tom Brady may soon have to abide by a set of rules specifically laid out for him as he enters his first year as a broadcaster for FOX Sports.

During the NFL's meetings in Minneapolis, owners were shown a presentation of new rules Brady will have to follow if he is approved to be a partial owner of the Las Vegas Raiders. The slide shown to owners, aptly named the "Brady - Broadcast Restrictions," would reportedly only apply to Brady and no other members of FOX Sports.

The rules were seemingly introduced as many owners expressed concern about Brady's role as a broadcaster for FOX and potentially being a part owner of the Raiders. As such, the league shared a handful of guidelines the 47-year-old will have to follow for the upcoming season and beyond, if he is approved as a part owner.

For starters, Brady would not be allowed into another team's facility, watch practice and attend broadcast production meetings, either in-person or virtually, according to ESPN . The NFL legend also would not be allowed to speak with players and coaches before each game either, hindering his ability as a broadcaster.

Along with having to abide by a certain set of rules, Brady will have to also be wary of the rules laid out to owners as well. Though he would be calling the games, Brady will have to be careful when he criticizes officials as he could be fined or suspended if he goes too far.

Brady will also be subjected to the NFL's gambling policy and would only permitted to only "strictly social communication with members of other clubs."

However, for the Brady rules to be implemented, at least 24 of the 32 owners will have to agree on allowing the seven-time Super Bowl champion to own a portion of the Raiders. Additionally, many league officials and owners questioned how much Brady was slated to pay for his 10 percent stake in the Raiders.

Since being reported in March of the sale, there has been little to no movement on that front. Until Brady formally becomes an owner of the Raiders, he will continue as FOX Sports' latest addition to the No. 1 team alongside Kevin Burkhardt.

That said, there certainly will be a learning curve for the former star quarterback as with all things. Specifically, Brady's former teammate Drew Bledsoe couldn't help but jokingly throw a jab his way regarding how Brady was as a commentator.

"I know that Tommy will work it to death," Bledsoe said . "I will get kind of tired of his squeaky ass voice, but I know he'll do a great job calling the games."

"It's the guys that do the work that are great at it and it's really that simple when you look at it. You look at Aikman, you look at Romo... I mean everyone looks at Romo like he's predicting the future. Well, he went to practice and he saw what they ran from that formation and that's what they did."

Brady got his first taste of being a broadcaster during the Birmingham Stallions' UFL Championship win over the San Antonio Brahmas. His UFL assignment was the first time he took the booth and certainly won't be the last as he enters the first year of a 10-year, $375 million deal.
