In a harrowing family dispute turned violent, Barry Reed, a 73 year old grandfather, attacked his own daughter and granddaughter with a fury that led to an attempted stabbing and a broken nose then headbutted her , all while calling her '"fat."

The dreadful scene unfolded in Bridgend on August 19 when Reed's daughter, Emma Daly, and granddaughter, Alisha Daly, visited his home to discuss a prior quarrel. Initially calm, the situation escalated rapidly at Cardiff Crown Court, unveiling details of Reed's vitriolic outlash, featuring verbal abuse and physical aggression , including an aggressive attempt to stab her leg.

The court heard how Reed lashed out with abhorrent language, told his daughter to "f*** off", called his granddaughter "fat", and then menacingly grabbed a screwdriver aiming for his daughter's leg, which resulted in a cut.

The violence intensified as he pushed his daughter and struck his granddaughter on the head before launching a stomach punch to his daughter, leading to further chaos. Alisha, attempting to defend herself and her mother, managed to punch Reed, causing him to stumble over a door frame.

In a final act of aggression, Reed headbutted his daughter causing a 'crunching' sound indicative of a nasal fracture. The ordeal ended with Alisha pushing the enraged grandfather back into the house, preventing any further harm as they fled the violent scene, reports Wales Online .

Reed, a resident of Bower Street, Kenfig Hill, was convicted of assault causing actual bodily harm and affray. The court was informed that he had no prior criminal record.

In a personal victim statement, Emma Daly expressed: "My relationship with my father isn't the best, I felt overlooked and pushed aside but I tried my best to be there for my family... I did not expect to be assaulted by my own father and I didn't expect vile and hurtful words towards me and my daughter. I am upset at what he has done, not just on this occasion but throughout my life. I have tried my best to be there for him, I break down crying. I want him to realise what he's doing and to take responsibility for what he's done. He has broken us up as a family.Alisha Daly revealed her distress for her mother and her recurring memories of the incident. She added: "I feel sorry for my mother and everything she's had to put up with. The only physical fight I've had in my life has been with my grandfather.

"In defense, Rhodri Chudleigh mentioned that his client was in his seventies and dealing with several health issues. He also noted that the defendant had recently lost his wife and was grieving the loss of his grandson.During sentencing, Judge Lucy Crowther stated: "This was a frightening experience for your daughter and granddaughter. Whatever family rifts had been before, your daughter had feelings of affection and loyalty towards you and stands by you.

Your granddaughter was shocked you could behave like that to members of your family. ".

Reed was handed a two-year community order and was also ordered to complete a 20-day rehabilitation activity. In addition, he was slapped with costs amounting to $931
