Connecticut Sun guard DiJonai Carrington called out the Indiana Fever's fanbase online after a tightly contested 84-80 loss on Wednesday night. The game was marked by intense back-and-forth action, particularly between Carrington and Fever rookie standout Caitlin Clark .

After the game, Carrington took to social media to express her frustration with the Fever's fanbase. She posted on X that "The Indiana Fever has the nastiest fans in the W. Ew." It didn't take long for the post to rack up nearly 2 million impressions and generate significant interest from fans, especially those who have followed her ongoing battles with Clark throughout the season .

Some WNBA fans supported Carrington's right to express her feelings following an intense game. Supporters of Carrington noted the Fever fanbase previously called for team leading scorer Kelsey Mitchell to be traded due to "not passing the ball," averaging 1.9 assists per game.

Earlier in the season, when All-Star forward Aliyah Boston initially fell short of dominating expectations, the fanbase channeled their frustration. Boston told the team's HR department that she had to delete her X account because of the scrutiny . This happened after starting the season with five straight losses, including two to Carrington's Sun, and a record of 2-10 to start the year.

But criticism of Carrington's tweet went beyond the court, with fans taking personal racially fueled jabs. One fan used the 2020 murder of George Floyd to create a meme of Clark as a police officer, kneeling on the neck of Carrington.

Other fans critiqued Carrington's analysis, saying her comments came following a loss to the Fever but not during the three times that Connecticut defeated Indiana this season . Carrington earned her season high in scoring during the third game with 22 points, only missing four shots.

One of the game's key moments came in the third quarter when the Fever held a three-point lead and grabbed a rebound to deliver the ball to Clark. Known for her deep shooting range, Clark sank a 26-foot step-back three-pointer that electrified the home crowd at Bainbridge Fieldhouse.

But the Sun guard quickly responded, hitting a 25-foot three-pointer of her own off an assist from Alyssa Thomas. She taunted the crowd with a "shh" hand gesture as she backpeddled down the court to set up on defense.

The next possession of Clark's game was less than a minute later. She powered towards the line before placing a silky behind-the-back dribble to get past Carrington . She followed it up with a pump fake that sent Carrington in the air to contest. Clark scored an easy basket around the rim, bringing the crowd to a louder roar.

Carrington and Clark battled until the game's final seconds, finishing with 19 points each. But both players also struggled beyond the arc, with Carrington making just 1-of-5 three-pointers and Clark hitting only 3-of-12 from deep. The fourth quarter was down to the wire, with neither team holding more than a three-point lead until the final 19 seconds. A taken personal foul by Carrington sent Lexie Hull to the free-throw line, where she sank the defining shots to seal the Fever victory.
