The living conditions of the Whittaker family, known as America's "most inbred" family have been revealed after fans questioned where all the money donated to them went.

The story of the Whittaker family , residing in a small town named Odd in Virginia, has been shared by Mark Laita , a documentarian who runs a YouTube series called Soft White Underbelly. Many members of the family suffer from genetic deformities, a result of inbreeding, and some only communicate in barks or grunts.

Their story has intrigued viewers and sparked a desire to help them. However, things took a turn back in March when fellow YouTuber Tyler Oliveira posted a video exploring the "poorest region of America" and interviewed the family about their finances.

When Oliveira asked family matriarch Betty "what happened to the money?" she responded: "I don't know". An angry Mark retorted: "Come on, Betty knows exactly where the money went. Look at the Whittakers, their lives have improved greatly since I came into it and the reason for that is because I came through for them every time", reports the Daily Star .

Despite raising approximately $100k for the family, they still seem to live in destitution, as seen in almost every video Mark has filmed. Their home, which is falling apart, features a filthy toilet and a brown-stained bucket filled with what appears to be human waste.

In one of Mark's early videos, he revealed the family's unconventional bathing setup involving a tub and a perpetually present bucket, and noted the litter scattered across their counters and floor. The Whittakers did not lack stores of food, but upon opening their fridge, a swarm of flies burst out as if escaping confinement.

Now irked by remarks on financial matters, Mark posted proof of transactions to shut down critics, stating: "I'm actually going to discontinue my GoFundMe for the Whittakers I probably won't even do videos with them anymore, it's just left such a bad taste in my mouth after all this."

He continued his defense by outlining the funds raised, "The Whittaker one has generated like $130,000 between the $77k and the $55k it is right now so it's roughly $130k I think. They've received according to the list that I put on screen earlier, it's $100,000 right there and then I've given them $25,000 cash when I've seen them giving them five here, five there, four there, three there."
