General Booty shakes his way to a touchdown as college football fever grips U.S.

General Booty threw for a touchdown and led Louisiana-Monroe to victory in Week 1 of the Week 1 of the 2024 college football season.

On Thursday night, ULM secured a 30-14 victory over Jackson State, formerly coached by Deion Sanders, with Booty playing a starring role. Booty has become a household name through high school and college thanks to his amusing name, but his play stood out against Jackson State.

Late in the first quarter, Booty dropped back, pump-faked, and delivered a perfect pass to Davon Wells. The receiver dived into the end zone, ensuring a fine start for the Warhawks; Booty finished with 104 yards and a touchdown on 10-of-14 completions, while Baker tallied 83 yards along with the score.

Earlier this offseason, ULM announced the program will be starting Booty at quarterback this season . Booty, who served as the backup for Dillon Gabriel with the Oklahoma Sooners , entered the transfer portal and landed with ULM.

Despite joining from the college football powerhouse, Booty was given no assurances that he'd be starting. However, he impressed during the offseason and was named the official starter - much to fans' delight.

One fan wrote: "'General Booty takes the snap' is going to be legendary," as another said: "I thought the game (NCAA College Football 25) was lying when I saw that name." A third tweeted: "One of the all-time great college football names, and he's playing quarterback in D1... sensational."

Rising as something of a cult hero due to his name, Booty has secured a following over the past four years with Tyler University, before joining Oklahoma where he had been a backup for Gabriel under head coach Brent Venables. He switched to ULM to secure more playing time heading into his senior year.

The 6-foot-2, 190-pound Booty appeared in one game each of the past two seasons for Oklahoma but never recorded a stat after he had transferred from Tyler Junior College in Texas. In his freshman season, Booty led the NJCAA with 3,410 passing yards while completing 61 percent of his attempts with 27 touchdowns to secure a 7-5 record for Tyler along with a Bowl game win.

Thanks to his name, Booty was offered numerous NIL deals and he decided to donate 20 percent of his revenue to local children's hospitals. On his website, Booty said: “My family has been a really good example to me my whole life, and we talked about the importance of giving back. I have a special place in my heart for kids, so after my visit there, I knew Oklahoma Children’s Hospital would be where my support would go.”

He adds: “Ever since I was a young kid playing quarterback, my name has grabbed a lot of attention. I’ve always tried my best on the field and off to give people a reason to remember my name. Based on the recent court's ruling allowing Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals, I wanted to use my name to support a great cause.”
