Deion Sanders' assessment of opening Colorado win speaks volumes

After narrowly escaping the embarrassment of a Week 1 defeat, Deion Sanders assessed Colorado's performance as if his team lost the game .

Colorado won a closely-contested matchup against North Dakota State with a final score of 31-26. The Bison were in a position to win the game after NDCU's quarterback Cam Miller completed a dump-off pass to set up a last-ditch Hail Mary effort with five seconds left on the clock. Miller completed the 49-yard pass to Tyler Terhark, ending on Colorado's four-yard line.

But the time on the clock they were expired before the Bison could try their hand at a final play to seal the deal. After the game, Sanders addressed the media to discuss his team's performance and said: "You ever felt like you won but you didn’t win? You won, but you did not win [the game].

"We had more points than they did but giving up the last touchdown on a run, that bothered me. We pride ourselves on going to get the quarterback and we have a multitude of young men that can go and get the quarterback. We didn't get that done," he continued. "But I'm thankful and happy that we got the W, and we get one step closer to a dream. Thirty-one NFL scouts were on hand tonight, and I think they saw what they came to see."

Coach Prime continued the press conference by saying he would do his best to suppress his anger following the team's performance. But he still expressed joy and relief at getting the one for the first game on the schedule. The defensive issues from last season's 4-8 display continued, giving up 157 rushing yards on the ground and 292 through the air. The Buffaloes gave up a crucial fourth down, with North Dakota State also converting 7 of 13 third-down conversions.

The Buffaloes also gave up 20 points in the first half of the game. Miller effectively sliced Colorado's offense, completing 18-22 passes for 227 yards, a touchdown, and running for 81 yards and two touchdowns on the ground. Colorado had no problems offensively, with Shedeur Sanders passing for 445 yards and four touchdowns. He connected with Heisman candidate Travis Hunter and standout wide receiver Jimmy Horn Jr with seven receptions each.

Hunter was the key to the offense , with 132 receiving yards and three touchdowns. His first touchdown saw him catch an inside curl route, followed by breaking a tackle and jetting off into the end zone, blazing past five defenders.

The Heisman hopeful's second touchdown came on a fake handoff, where Shedeur threw a seam down the middle of the field as he was getting tackled. On his way to the ground, he threw a last-ditch, 13-yard pass to connect with Hunter, where he carefully secured the ball with two ends at the end of the endzone, making sure his feet were in play for the score.

His last touchdown would prove crucial from an over-the-shoulder "desperation" throw to the back of the endzone for a catch that the commentators deemed "Impossible, implausible, and unbelievable" to come down with. The play was Colorado's last in scoring, which sealed the victory.
