San Francisco 49ers rookie Ricky Pearsall has been shot while the receiver reportedly attended an autograph signing event.

It's claimed the NFL star was shot in a robbery attempt as an assailant tried to thieve his Rolex watch in Union Square in downtown San Francisco. Pearsall was shot in the chest as the robbery attempt saw a struggle for the gun, leading to both the rookie and suspect getting shot.

The shooting is said to have taken place on Geary near Union Square 100 block of Geary, with two victims reported. Pearsall - along with the suspect - are now in stable condition and the suspect is in custody.

San Francisco Police released a statement on the shooting involving Pearsall, which read: "On August 31, 2024, at approximately 3:37 p.m., San Francisco Police officers responded to the area of Geary Street and Grant Avenue on a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located two male subjects suffering from injuries. Oficers rendered aid and medics transported both subjects to a local hospital for further medical evaluation.

"During the preliminary investigation, officers learned one of the subjects attempted to rob the victim, San Francisco 49ers player Ricky Pearsall. During the attempted robbery, a physical altercation ensued, and both the suspect and victim were injured. The suspet is in custody and charges are pending at this time."

London Breed, the mayor of the city and county of San Francisco, has released a statement. It read: "This afternoon, there was an attempted robbery in Union Square involving San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and he was shot.

"SFPD was on scene immediately and an arrest of the shooter was made. My thoughts are with Ricky and his family at this time. We will provide more updates, including on his condition, as I receive them."

The 23-year-old rookie was preparing to play his first NFL game against the New York Jets on Monday Night Football in Week 1. He was taken in the first round after playing collegiately at Arizona State and Florida.

Pearsall was selected with the 31st overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft , and he inked his four-year rookie deal with the 49ers . Fellow wideout Deebo Samuel took to social media following news of Pearsall's condition, writing: "He’s good. Thank god!!!!"

On July 16, 2024, Pearsall was placed on the Active/Non-football injury or illness (NFI) list after aggravating a shoulder injury in practice. He missed the entire preseason as a result of his injury. San Francisco head coach Kyle Shanahan described Pearsall's issue as a shoulder subluxation, which occurs when the ball of the shoulder partially slides out of the socket and pops back into place.

“He did it in college, I think, his junior year,” Shanahan said at the 49ers' preseason finale with the Las Vegas Raiders last week. “About 50 percent of the people coming out of college do that. That wasn't really the problem. He did it in OTAs for the first time with us.

“When you do that, it's tender. Then he redid it here a couple of weeks ago. It makes it tender, so you want to give him time to come back from it. It's probably happened to 80% of the guys on our team at some time. It's just a pretty normal thing.”

Shanahan revealed Pearsall's latest subluxation on August 6. He had previously suffered the issue during the offseason but continued to practice.

Pearsall, who was teammates with receiver Brandon Aiyuk at ASU, took part in six of 19 training camp practices and was unable to play in all three preseason games due to hamstring and shoulder injuries. The shoulder issue ultimately kept him sidelined for 20 days.
