Scottie Scheffler has finally got his hands on the FedEx Cup title - and the lucrative £25 million prize - after clinching the Tour Championship at East Lake on Sunday.

Scheffler has announced himself as a phenomenon in 2024, and the world No. 1 capped this off in Atlanta this week by winning the PGA Tour's season-long prize for the first time in his career. Having started the staggered strokes event two clear of second-place Xander Schauffele at 10-under-par, Scheffler ended the week at 31-under-par to get his hands on the crown.

His week - and season - ended with yet another impressive showing on Sunday, after the 28-year-old Texan carded a four-under 67 in the fourth round, to finish four clear of the Collin Morikawa in second place.

Having entered the final round with a five-shot advantage, Scheffler remained as calm and collective as ever, knowing he still had a job to do, having failed to make the most of two previous staggered stroke leads in 2022 and 2023. It was a steady start from the man at the top, who made one birdie (at the second) and three pars across his opening four holes.

Scheffler's first hiccup of the day then came at the par-four fifth, as the Olympic gold medalist made his first bogey with a five. He had the perfect response moments later, canceling out his blemish with a birdie at the par-five sixth. Much had been said about the element of competition heading into the final round, with the world No. 1 golfer so far ahead of his rivals with just 18 holes left to play.

Scheffler and Morikawa's trip around the seventh and eighth however showed this tournament was far from over. The world No. 1's tee shot at eight sailed left, forcing him to lay up from the trees before later going on to make bogey. More trouble then followed for the eventual champion.

After taking on the driveable par-four eighth, Scheffler found the front green-side bunker, and what followed left the whole of East Lake shocked. The best golfer on the globe went on to shank his second shot from the sand, before failing to get up and down for his par, making back-to-back bogeys.

Morikawa meanwhile smelt blood, as he made birdie to move within just two shots of the leader. This however was Scheffler, and the FedEx Cup champion's woes did not last long. Just moments after his nightmare shank, the world No. 1 fired a superb tee shot at the 236-yard par-three ninth to within five feet. He would of course tidy up for birdie, and normal order was resumed.

From then on Scheffler was back, as he then made two more birdies on the bounce after making the turn to re-find his handsome lead. Back-to-back pars then followed at 12 and 13, before Scheffler's magic returned a whole later. He broke the 30-under mark for the week at the par-five 14th, firing in a remarkable second shot from the fairway to 15-feet before rolling in the eagle putt.

Morikawa meanwhile had made two-straight birdies, but Scheffler's brilliance saw him edge five clear with four holes to play. Scheffler's victory lap then saw him make four straight pars, enough to secure him a four-shot victory. It has been a year of record breaking for Scheffler, and now he ends the season with just short of $55 million in PGA Tour prize money.
