Apalachee High School received the call on Wednesday morning - with an unknown caller threatening shootings across five locations, officials told CNN . It is not known who originally placed the call. It comes as at least four people are confirmed dead and 30 are reportedly injured after an active shooter allegedly opened fire inside a Georgia high school.

A 14-year-old male suspect later identified as Apalachee High School student Colt Gray was taken into custody, Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) Director Chris Hosey said in a press conference on Wednesday afternoon. He is slated to be charged with murder and tried as an adult.

Hosey said the four dead were two students and two teachers. There is no known connection between the victims and Gray, but the investigation is ongoing. GBI previously confirmed the four deaths in a statement on X as it also confirmed at least nine of the injuries.

The first victim in the fatal Georgia shooting has been identified as special education teacher math teacher, David Phenix, at Appalache High School . His daughter shared the news on Facebook that Phenix was shot in the foot and in the hip, shattering his hip bone by an alleged 14-year-old .

She wrote: "We are so thankful for all the texts, calls, and messages about my dad, David Phenix. There was a shooting this morning at Apalachee High School and my dad was shot in the foot and in the hip, shattering his hip bone."

President Joe Biden said he is "mourning the deaths" of the people killed and condemned the gun violence epidemic in the country. “What should have been a joyous back-to-school season in Winder, Georgia , has now turned into another horrific reminder of how gun violence continues to tear our communities apart," the president said in a statement. "Students across the country are learning how to duck and cover instead of how to read and write. We cannot continue to accept this as normal."

Biden also used his statement to push for Congress to act and pass an assault weapons ban. “After decades of inaction, Republicans in Congress must finally say ‘enough is enough’ and work with Democrats to pass common-sense gun safety legislation,” he added.

Apalachee High School is located in Winder, Georgia, which is about 45 miles northeast of Atlanta and 25 miles west of Athens, the home of the University of Georgia. Students had been back in class for just over a month as of Wednesday — having returned from summer break on August 1.
