Dave Portnoy taunts Angel Reese after weighing in on Caitlin Clark debate

Dave Portnoy made it known what he feels about Angel Reese and her offensive game once again.

The Barstool Sports boss was watching the Chicago Sky take on the Las Vegas Aces and after the first half, Reese and the Sky found themselves down 16, 47-31. Seeing Chicago firmly in line to record its seventh straight loss, Portnoy couldn't help but throw a barb Reese's way on social media.

On X, Portnoy posted an update of the Sky rookie's stats with a pointed message aimed her way . "Angel fixing to go off in 2nd half vs. Vegas," the 47-year-old wrote to his fans as he watched Chicago struggle against Las Vegas. "Down 20 at half. She's got 5 pts, 1/5 from field (20%), 8 boards. Its officially Angel time. She goes demon mode in situations like these."

Portnoy's comments are in reference to Sky head coach Teresa Weatherspoon's penchant for leaving Reese in games that seemingly are already out of hand to continue recording stats.

Back in July, the Sky found themselves down 14 against the New York Liberty in the game's waning moments. However, Reese only needed one more basket to continue her streak of consecutive games with a double, sitting with eight points and 16 rebounds.

As such, Weatherspoon kept Reese in the game and commanded her players to feed the rookie the ball to keep the streak alive, despite the game being all but over. In response, the Liberty met Reese with a triple team - with star guard Sabrina Ionescu providing additional help - to prevent her from getting a double-double in a seemingly useless game.

Against the Aces, leaving Reese in the game made sense, considering it was just the start of the second half. Her presence did not alter the result of the game, however, as the Sky lost 90-71 in Las Vegas. Reese once again had a double-double with 12 points and 16 rebounds.

That said, Reese continued her struggle from the field en route to yet another double-double, shooting 4-of-12 from the field. In her last seven games, Reese is averaging 12.7 points and 17.4 rebounds but she is shooting 35.2 percent from the field and has a plus/minus rating of -6.6, meaning the Sky are being outscored by 6.6 points with her on the floor.

During that stretch, Reese is shooting 37.3 percent from within five feet on 9.6 attempts per game. Between 5-9 feet, Reese is shooting an unsightly 11.1 percent, though she is putting up 1.3 attempts from that distance.

And while Reese's double-double streak throughout the season has been impressive in its own right, the way Reese is accruing her stats leaves much to be desired. It also doesn't help that Chicago is tumbling out of the playoff race, hanging onto the final spot by a thread.

On the other hand, Caitlin Clark continues to break records, firmly etching her name as the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year ahead of Reese. Because of her exploits, Clark was named both the WNBA Rookie of the Month and Player of the Month for August after averaging 24.0 points, 8.5 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game.

More impressively, Clark shot 46.9 percent from the field, 37.3 from beyond the arc and sank 93.8 percent of her free throws. Of note, the Indiana Fever clinched a playoff spot for the first time in eight seasons, thanks to the historic year Clark is having.
