Jordan Love injury timetable confirmed as Green Bay Packers breathe sigh of relief

Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love is expected to miss between three and six weeks after suffering an injury in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season.

Love went down with just five seconds left on the clock as the Packers lost their opening game against the Philadelphia Eagles on Friday. The quarterback was pushing for a late miracle on the final drive against the Eagles but his leg buckled under Philadelphia defenseman Jalen Carter.

The 25-year-old stayed down for several minutes before being helped off by trainers. Love was walking by the end of the game, but underwent tests on Friday to reveal the extent of the damage.

Love had an MRI which revealed an MCL sprain but there were no signs of ACL damage. While the injury is a blow to the Packers who were looking to make a big push this season, the diagnosis isn't as serious as some fans feared and Love will return this year.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport wrote on social media: "My understanding is Jordan Love has between a Grade 1 and Grade 2 MCL sprain, which means he’ll miss a few weeks but not extended time." The Packers have set a timetable for his return at "3-6 weeks" assuming his recovery process is smooth.

It was a thrilling start to the season for the Packers, who were leading in Brazil before the Eagles stages a comeback. The final score was 34-29 in favor of the Eagles, although things may have been different if Love was able to see out the final drive.

It was a strong start for wide receiver Jayden Reed, who scored both a rushing and receiving touchdown on the night. Reed rushed for a 33-yard touchdown before combining with Love for a 70-yard score, the longest touchdown completion yet in Jordan's career.

Love also found Christian Watson in the end zone for a short 2-yard completion, but the Eagles had new running back Saquon Barkley to thank for a Week 1 victory. Barkley scored three touchdowns on the night and receiver A.J. Brown also scored points.

The Packers replaced Love with Malik Willis, who joined the organization this offseason after leaving the Tennessee Titans. Although Willis only had five seconds to make his mark, he went 0 for 1 leaving Green Bay with a decision to make ahead of Week 2.

Should Love return as expected by Week 8, he could start against the Jacksonville Jaguars. As the Packers don't have their bye week until Week 10, Love could miss games against the Indianapolis Colts, Titans, Minnesota Vikings, Los Angeles Rams, Arizona Cardinals, and Houston Texans if he needs the full six weeks.
