DUNDEE — Twenty-eight years ago, Dundee Community Schools landed two elementary school teachers, Regina Lein and Wendy Spotts, who have dedicated their years to teaching.

The pair have become best friends.

“We have a pinky swear," Regina Lein said. "The day we decide to retire — we go out together.”

Lein has been a fourth grade teacher the entire time and Spotts has been fourth grade as well, except for a couple years in third grade.

“We have had students, where I have had their brothers, sisters and even their dads,” Wendy Spotts said.

For 20 of the 28 years of teaching, the pair have co-taught subjects.

Spotts loves math and science. Lein enjoys English, reading and writing. Both teachers handle their own social studies.

This year, Lein and Spotts, hopefully, they have found their classroom homes in the new wing.

The teachers have been moved to eight different classroom locations in the building over the years at Dundee Elementary.

Dundee Public School built an additional wing onto the elementary school that has 11 new classrooms, new lockers, a bathroom, new front office, new drop off point and entry way, added additional area in the cafeteria and a new playground.

The first day of classes were on Monday, August 26, 2024.

After the students arrived, one of the teachers committed to the size of their new rooms.  Lein has 28 students and Spotts has 29 for the new year, as the new wing houses fourth and third grade students.

As the students work on their morning assignments, Lein talked to her students on how nervous she was on the first day.

"My husband, Heath, helped me this morning, made my breakfast and lunch," she said.

"How many of you (students) were nervous about the first day?" Lein asked, as the hands went up.

    Funny, both teachers are alike.

Spotts asked the same question, but she had the kids watch a video, “First Day Jitters,” which addresses the first day.

“I have been dreaming about the first day now for two weeks,” Spotts shared with her students. “Will the classroom be a mess, will I be nervous about the first day, etc.”

Both teachers are pros, as they went on with their morning routines.

“My first day was AWESOME!!,” texted Spotts.

“I am so thankful for the Dundee community,” Lein said. “It is just amazing” as she refers to the new additions.
