OXFORD — In a highly-touted battle between River Region powerhouses, Saint James fell to Opp 8-1 in the semifinal round of the AHSAA Class 3A state tournament.

Opp moves on to the Class 3A championship slated for Friday afternoon. Saint James awaits the winner of Plainview and Piedmont. That game is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. Friday.

Reese Cauley started the game with a two-RBI single to provide a 2-0 lead. After a Saint James score in the second, both teams defenses did not allow a score in the next four innings.

Opp’s Bradleigh Lanier triple in the top of the seventh plated two more runs for the Bobcats. Fielding errors from the Trojans allowed them to give up six runs scored in the final inning.
