Inmate confirmed dead at Elmore Correctional Facility

An inmate at Elmore Correctional Facility has been confirmed dead.

Mitchell Ryan Monroe, 45, was found unresponsive on his bed with injuries on Aug. 25, the Alabama Department of Corrections said. Life-saving measures were administered, and emergency medical technicians were contacted, ADOC said.

A physician ultimately pronounced Monroe dead, a prisons spokesperson said.

The ADOC's Law Enforcement Services Division is investigating Monroe's death. The official cause of death is pending the conclusion of the investigation.

Monroe was serving concurrent 15-year sentences for third-degree burglary out of Cullman County.
