The Allentown School Board has appointed a human resources professional to be its newest member.

Robert “Nick” Nicholoff will fill the vacancy created last month when school director Daysell Ramirez resigned six months into her four-year term. Ramirez stepped down from the board, citing “bullying” and “poor professionalism,” according to a resignation letter shared on social media.

Nicholoff, who will be sworn in during the Sept. 12 board meeting, is filling the seat until December 2027. The district had 30 days to fill the position.

The 28-year-old Nicholoff, who was chosen during the board’s Thursday meeting, is a human resources generalist at Silgan Containers in Upper Macungie Township, according to his LinkedIn page.

“We are excited to welcome Mr. Nick Nicholoff to the Allentown School Board,” said Andrene Brown-Nowell, the board president, in a district news release. “His experience in people-focused positions will make him a valuable asset to our school community. We are excited by Mr. Nicholoff’s passion for cultivating a rigorous, safe, and nurturing learning environment for all ASD students.”

Five candidates participated in the selection process before the meeting. Besides Nicholoff, the others interviewed were Patrick Palmer, Ruby Cruz, Robert E. Smith Jr. and Gizelle Alkhal.
