ODOT's Gateway to the Islands project in Port Clinton nears completion

The Ohio Department of Transportation will hold a public dedication Monday of a $11 million project road project in Port Clinton, dubbed the Gateway to the Islands, that is nearing completion.

The intersection safety improvement project constructed a roundabout at the westbound leg of Ohio 2/Ohio 53; constructed a roundabout at the Ohio 53 and State Road intersection; widened Ohio 53 (S.E. Catawba Road) from the interchange to Ohio 163; added a two-way center turn lane throughout the corridor; added sidewalk, and upgraded curb ramps.

Something great that I ate: Cannoli from Ideal Bakery

Do some research on the internet and you will find many cannoli recipes, but I think they are rich and decadent.

The traditional Italian dessert is something I practically grew up with. My step-mom was Italian and we had cannoli at every family gathering. I don't know how Grandpa Clem could eat a cannoli and then smoke a cigar. It seems like I can savor that rich creamy filling for hours.

I know the filling is usually made with ricotta cheese, so don't mistake it for a puff pastry. As I understand it, some variations swap the whole milk ricotta cheese for a sheep's milk variety. Whatever the secret, Ideal Bakery makes some good cannolis.

Ideal Bakery has two locations, but this is the first time I've been to the one in Fremont, at 1221 Oak Harbor Road. They are also on the web at idealbakeryoh.com.
