IBEW to host Labor Day Parade Parade kicks off at 10 a.m. on Tiffin Street

The annual Fremont Labor Day Parade will be held at 10 a.m. Monday.

The International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 8-sponsored parade begins at Rodger Young Park at the Tiffin Road entrance and will march north on Tiffin Street, merge into Front Street and end at Croghan. Lineup begins at 8:30 a.m.

Josh Abernathy, business agent for Local 8 based in Rossford, said the IBEW Local 8 has long been a sponsor of the Fremont Labor Day Parade. Invitations were sent out weeks ago and the deadline to register was Aug. 23. Those wishing to participate in the 2025 parade may call 419-666-8920.

"We're trying to engage with labor unions," Abernathy said. Besides unions marching in the parade, there will also be local police and fire. They also have union operations. Another five unions will be represented in the parade. The Shriners also are on the list of participants.

Two special birthdays for Sandusky County’s oldest veteran and his wife were celebrated Aug. 21 during the Hayes Presidential Verandah Concert.

North Coast Big Band played “Happy Birthday” for the couple in celebration of Juanita Robinett’s 95th birthday Aug. 22 and Ned Robinett’s 101st birthday this Sunday. The crowd was estimated to be 300 strong and the Ladies Who Walk donated cupcakes for everyone.

“They were wonderful at Spiegel Grove,” Juanita Robinett said. “They had special chairs set up for us and a sign printed, right there beside us. They had ice cream and cupcakes. The cupcakes had red, white and blue frosting, honoring Ned’s service. They gave me a bouquet of red roses and Ned a bucket of goodies, including a bottle of wine.”
