    Triangle restaurant gets ‘B’ grade for holding old food: Sanitation scores (Aug. 13)

    The News & Observer publishes a weekly roundup of restaurant sanitation scores to keep you up-to-date on the health grades at Triangle dining spots.

    Sanitation scores and their corresponding letter grades are used in North Carolina to assess restaurants’ adherence to rules and standards intended to mitigate and prevent the spread of food-borne illnesses.

    You’ve likely seen sanitation grade cards at restaurants you’ve visited, and The N&O previously explained what those scores mean and how they’re calculated .

    Here are sanitation scores in Triangle counties for the week of Aug. 7-13.

    Wake County sanitation scores

    The Wake County sanitation grades database shows that 71 restaurant inspections were completed Aug. 7-13.

    ▪ Most restaurants received an A grade, or a score of at least 90%.

    ▪ Two restaurant received a B grade, or a score of at least 80% but lower than 90%.

    Lechon Latin BBQ & Bar (5959 Triangle Town Blvd. Ste. 2121 in Raleigh) received a score of 87.5% during an inspection on Aug. 12.

    • The restaurant was in violation of 14 standards. Of these, seven were considered critical violations.
    • Critical violations included raw meats, like bacon and sausage, stored above pico de gallo and other ready-to-eat foods in the cooler, along with other frozen foods not marked with dates.
    • Some violations were corrected during the inspection.
    • The restaurant previously scored 91% in April 2024 and 93% in December 2023.

    Tandoori Trail (2017 Creekside Landing Dr. in Apex) received a score of 81% during an inspection on Aug. 8.

    • The restaurant was in violation of 17 standards. Of these, ten were considered critical violations.

    • Critical violations included a bowl of raw chicken stored above a container of cooked chicken and some leftover foods held past seven days.

    • Some violations were corrected during the inspection.

    • The restaurant previously scored 87% in January 2024 and 95% in August 2023.

    Durham County sanitation scores

    The Durham County inspection management system shows 33 restaurant inspections were completed Aug. 7-13.

    • All restaurants received an A grade.

    Orange County sanitation scores

    The Orange County inspection management system shows that nine restaurant inspections were completed Aug. 7-13.

    • All restaurants received an A grade.

    Johnston County sanitation scores

    The Johnston County sanitation inspections database shows that 14 restaurant inspections were completed Aug. 7-13.

    • All restaurants received an A grade.

    Chatham County sanitation scores

    The Chatham County inspections management system shows that seven restaurant inspections were completed Aug. 7-13.
