“Night Sky over the Obed Wild and Scenic River,” a free program of the ORION science and astronomy club, will be presented at 7 p.m. this Wednesday, April 21, at Roane State Community College, Oak Ridge campus.

The speaker, Joshua Gray, is a park ranger at the Obed Wild and Scenic River and the dark sky coordinator with interpretive and educational programs and experiences.

Obed is certified as an International Dark Sky Park, and has been since 2017, according to a new release. The primary areas for night sky viewing are at the Lilly Bluff Overlook (open for visitor use at night) and the Nemo Picnic Area.

Also speaking at Wednesday's program will be David Fields, director of Tamke-Allan Observatory (TAO) and co-founder and vice president of ORION. His topic is a possible plan of action to save our night skies.

The program, which is open to the public, will be at the City Room (Room A-111) of the McNally-Coffey Building. The program will also be carried live on Zoom.
