    Vote for Landmark Fine Homes fall high school athletes of the week for Aug. 19-25

    High school sports are back , and so is The Oklahoman's yearly fall sport athletes of the week poll. The poll for August 19-25 presented by Landmark Fine Homes is now live at oklahoman.com.

    Voting is open until noon Sunday. Here are this week's nominees:

    Cross country

    Nelin Kimery, Jr., Piedmont: He helped Piedmont win Deer Creek's meet Saturday. Kimery finished the five-kilometer race in 16 minutes, 3.24 seconds.

    Emma Johnson, Sr., Edmond North: She placed third on Saturday at Deer Creek's meet, which included some of the best runners in the state. Johnson completed the run in 18:25.45.

    Jayden Polk, Fr., Purcell: He dominated his competition at Bridge Creek's meet Saturday and won with a time of 16:45.36.

    Shayne Vonfeldt, Fr., Bethany: She won the Bridge Creek meet in her first high school cross country race Saturday. She finished the two-mile race in 12:48.93, winning by 42.71 seconds.

    Softball

    Reese Poage, Jr., Mustang: Poage led the Broncos with 12 hits this past week on a while batting .667 while hitting three doubles, five RBI and six runs.

    Gia Saggese, Sr., Edmond North: Saggese crushed a walk-off single to deep left-center field to give the Huskies a 3-2 win over Plainview in the Hall of Fame Fastpitch Festival.

    Volleyball

    Olivia Carter, Fr., Norman: Despite being a freshman, Carter has emerged as the Tigers' top player through the first few weeks of the season. She's spearheaded Norman's efforts to an 11-4 record while leading te team with 143 kills and seven blocks with a 0.333 hitting percentage.

    Livia Ward, Sr., Mount St. Mary: Ward was awarded MVP of the Broken Arrow Class 6A tournament as the Rockets went 6-0 on the weekend to claim the tournament championship. Ward averaged 10.5 assists per set and added 24 kills with zero errors for 0.453 hitting percentage.
