    Lafayette defeated New Hope 10-7 to open the 5A North Half

    The Lafayette Commodores defeated New Hope 10-7 on Friday in the first game of the 5A North Half Championship. Lafayette got on the scoreboard first against New Hope with a run in the first on a RBI groundout by Brody Breithaupt. The Commodores scored four more runs in the second on base knocks by Aleck Farmer, Houston Morgan and Balin Bishop. The inning was capped off by a double by Breithaupt as Lafayette went up 5-0. Lafayette’s starter Aleck Farmer had a strong performance on the mound against New Hope. In the bottom of the third, Lafayette continued to add to their lead on a three-run home run to left field by Foster Crockett to go up 8-0. Crockett finished the game going 2-for-3 with a double and home run and scored two runs with three RBIs. New Hope loaded the bases in the fourth inning and manufactured two runs on a single to right field and a sacrifice fly to right field making the score 8-2 Lafayette. Lafayette answered with two runs in the home half of the fourth as Jack East singled and the second run came in on a pass ball to go up 10-2. New Hope scored four runs that were capped off by a double that made the score 10-6 Commodores. Farmer worked 4.2 innings and allowed six runs on five hits with three walks and five strikeouts. Lafayette brought Waller Smith to the mound in relief in the fifth. Smith tossed 2.1 innings and surrendered a run on two hits with three strikeouts. New Hope added their seventh run of the game in the sixth on a base hit to right field. Lafayette takes on New Hope in game two of the series on Saturday at New Hope. The first pitch is set for 7 p.m.
