According to a social media post this morning, the mother of the man hit while crossing West Jackson Avenue Saturday evening is in the CCU unit at North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

Sonia Lewis of Florence said her son Torrence, also of Florence, was struck by a minivan on Jackson Avenue near Dairy Queen. She wrote that he is stable but has a serious head injury, a fractured pelvis, two brain bleeds, a lot of scrapes and cuts and she is asking people for prayers.

The Oxford Police Department shut down Jackson Avenue to allow the Wings medical helicopter to land on the busy roadway at about 6:30 p.m. Saturday.

They have not released any more information yet about the incident; however, witnesses say the driver did stop.

This is a developing story. Check the Oxford Eagle for updates as they become available.
