Mid-Jefferson County Retired School Personnel recently awarded scholarships to two Mid-County graduates, Ngoc Le of Nederland High School and Kinsey Tran of Port Neches-Groves High School.

The scholarship program began in 2017 with the support of local businesses and organizations that provide the majority of the funding, and donations from members of the local chapter of the Texas Retired Teachers Association.

Tran plans to attend Lamar University and major in biology/pre- optometry. She ranked fourth in her class of 378 students.

She was a member of the National Honor Society and also belonged to the Key Club. In addition to being

co-captain of the tennis team, she participated in Citizen Bee, Physics Club, History Club, Spanish Club, as well as Indians Give, Freshmen Orientation, ASL, and Association of Indian Athletes.

Tran was active in community service through blood drives, Hope Clinic donations, Trunk or Treat, as well as animal shelter donations and food drives.

After graduating from Nederland High School, Le plans to enroll at Lamar University to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering. He ranked ninth in his class of 333 students.

In high school Ngoc was active in student council, Key

Club, National Honor Society, National Spanish Honor Society and basketball.

He served the community through school outreach programs and church activities, such as donations of hygiene products to prisoners and the homeless, toys and clothes to donation centers, Thanksgiving items for families in need and other charitable endeavors.

He also lettered in basketball and received varsity-level athletic and academic all-district awards.
