PA LNG’s Safe Communities Initiative awards $100K to local non-profits

Port Arthur LNG showcased its commitment to safety and recognized 22 local organizations with grants so they, in turn, can help the community be safer and healthier.

A total of $100,000 in grants were given to Jefferson County based organizations to fund community service programs through the Port Arthur LNG Safe Communities Initiative. The grants were announced Wednesday at the West Side Development Center.

The grant initiative has grown over the past three years, going from a handful of applicants to more than 20.

Sempra Infrastructure Director of External Affairs Kelly Prasser said Safe Communities was started to showcase not only Port Arthur LNG’s commitment to operating safely, building safely, living safely but also to energize organizations who are already in the community helping to keep the community safer.

Sempra is the parent company of Port Arthur LNG.

The awards covered an array of categories including mental health and wellness programs, safety champions and those helping battle food insecurity.

Grant recipients include: American Red Cross, Beaumont Dream Center of Southeast Texas, Catholic Charities of Southeast Texas, Chosen Generations Evangelistic Ministries, Christus Health Foundation of Southeast Texas, Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas, Garth House, Harvest House Ministry, IEA – Inspire, Encourage, Achieve, Jefferson County Health Fair – Precinct Four, Julie Rogers Gift of Life.

And Lamar State College Port Arthur Allied Health Society, Linda’s Lighthouse, Lion Hearted, Port Arthur Sertoma Club, Samaritan Counseling Center of Southeast Texas, Southeast Texas Food Bank, Southeast Texas Veterans 4 Veterans, Titans Boxing Club and Youth Organization, United Board of Missions, Willie Carter Outreach Center and YMCA of Southeast Texas.

Chris Roy, operations safety manager for Port Arthur LNG said safety is a core value for the company as well as the grant initiative.

“It’s also a mindset, a shared set of values, a set of beliefs, a set of behaviors,” Roy said. “And we put a lot of emphasis into both mental and physical health, safety, security of our workforce, our employees as well as our contractors and also the communities we work with.”

Since 2019, Port Arthur LNG has spent more than $715,000 in community grants to local organizations, Prasser said.
