The community is invited to an open house on March 22 for the new Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Department substation in Bassfield.

The event will be held at 6 p.m. at the new substation located at the Dr. Frank L. Leggett Public Library on General Robert E. Blount Drive in Bassfield.

The station will house Undersheriff Evan Price and his new office.

The Bassfield Police Department was closed in 2013 due to budget constraints. The JDC Sheriff’s Department covered the area, but there has not been an office there in 11 years. The establishment of the Bassfield substation signifies a commitment to enhancing law enforcement services in the area.

There will be a notable increase in police presence with the addition of the substation, bolstering the safety and security of Bassfield residents.

“Having a police substation here is going to help with all the great things happening in Bassfield,” said Bassfield Mayor Angie Ladner. “Having Evan stationed here makes me feel very confident in the safety of our citizens,” she said.

Members of the community are encouraged to attend the open house to witness this significant development in law enforcement services in Bassfield and surrounding communities as well as the Longleaf Trace.

For more information contact Bassfield City Hall at 601-943-5424 or the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Office at 601-792-5169.
