Two killed in Saturday night accident

A two-car accident Saturday night killed two and sent three to the hospital.

The accident happened just after 9 p.m. on Highway 13 North outside of Prentiss.

Former Jefferson Davis County Coroner Jimmy Slater and his wife Barbara were traveling south toward Prentiss when they were struck by an oncoming Jeep Patriot at Show Barn Road.

The driver of the Jeep, 63-year-old Katherine Williams Grant, was killed.

A passenger in the Jeep, Van Richard Grant, 58, was also killed. They were from Rankin County.

A child in the vehicle was taken by ambulance with non-life-threatening injuries.

Jimmy and Barbara Slater were transported to Jefferson Davis Community Hospital and airlifted to UMMC in Jackson.

Barbara sustained serious injuries and remains in the hospital.

Jimmy was treated and released.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating the accident and was assisted on the scene by the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Department.
