Guy Fieri bought several pigs at this year’s Sonoma County Fair youth livestock auction, including one from a Forestville girl raising money for an organization working to find a cure for a rare disease.

One of those pigs, selling for $24,000, was raised by 10-year-old June Trappe, who planned to donate half the money from the sale to the National MPS Society. Her 7-year-old brother, Jett, suffers from MPS-1 Hurlers Syndrome, a rare and and life-threatening metabolic disease.

Fieri and an anonymous buyer, who matched the Food Network star’s pledge, split the cost, according to June Trappe’s mother, Claire Trappe.

This marked the second time Fieri has bought pigs from the Trappe family. At last year’s fair, Fieri bought a porker named “Daddy Pig” for $4,850 from June Trappe’s older brother, Jaxon, who was also raising money for the National MPS Society.

This was June Trappe’s first time showing an animal at the auction.

Claire Trappe, told The Press Democrat that June Trappe sent Fieri a letter telling him that she wanted to do the same thing her brother did last year — raise money for research and to find a cure for MPS.

So how did June Trappe react to Fieri taking her request to heart? “Happy, excited and shocked,” her mother said. All June wants is “to help the MPS Society find a cure and take Jett’s pain and surgeries away.”

The Trappe family is “so thankful” for the continued support from Fieri and the community, Claire Trappe said, giving a “special thank you” to the donor who matched Fieri’s pledge.

June Trappe enjoyed raising the pig and had a hard time saying goodbye to it, according to her mother.

Even so, her mother said, she is looking forward to getting to do it all over again next year.

This year’s Junior Livestock Auction raised an estimated $2.26 million by 4-H, Future Farmers of America and Construction Corps youth.

The Guy Fieri Foundation announced its support of the Trappe family and the auction on social media. Fieri, a longtime Sonoma County resident, and his foundation were “proud” to support the FFA and 4-H members, according to the Aug. 10 post.

The meat of several pigs purchased will be donated to the Redwood Gospel Mission and Salvation Army in Santa Rosa to help feed those in need, the post read.
