New York's Taconic Railroad named most scenic in the United States

COPAKE FALLS, NY (RAILFAN JOURNAL) - One small railroad in New York has been named the most scenic train ride in the fall by The Travel.

On the scenic train ride which takes place in Taconic State Park in Copake Falls, riders cruise along the iconic Hudson River and are able to some of the most scenic spots within the Berkshires region.

According to The Travel, the line as been awarded nationally as the All-American Railroad with the price of a ticket coming out to $16-$26 for a round-trip. Totally worth it for the spectacular views!

Taconic State Park is the only state-owned park in New York that has operating passenger train excursions. Taconic State Park is located in Columbia and Dutchess County, New York abutting Massachusetts and Connecticut within the Taconic Mountains.

The state park is located off New York State Route 344 south of Interstate 90 and 110 miles north of New York City.

The railroad is expected to attract many visitors and educate them about the area's rich industrial heritage. Located on Route 344 in Copake Falls, Taconic State Park has more than 7,000 acres. The Harlem Valley Rail Trail passes through the park, which also has campgrounds and cabins. In 2016, Copake Iron Works was designated a National Heritage Area.

The completion of the project was made possible by a significant contribution from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation. The railroad was built by volunteers including Logan Carroll, Edgar Masters and Jim Conklin, all Copake residents.
