It was good to read Steve Grazier’s timely article on downtown Massillon properties. It underscored the importance of code enforcement and responsible ownership of these historic buildings. Downtown Massillon is what it is — old buildings — and they can only be saved and maintained by adhering to the above.

It was especially encouraging to read that Grant Kowell is finally selling his properties. For too long, his ownership has been problematic.

And if new buildings are built to replace existing ones, they must complement the existing architecture of downtown Massillon. Otherwise, they will create a new eyesore.

The city administration and city council need to work together and ensure this is handled properly.

    David Schultz, Massillon
