Jackson Local Schools Board of Education

    Tuesday meeting

ACTION(S): Authorized hiring of non-degreed substitute teachers as needed.

DISCUSSION: The board authorized the district to employ non-degreed substitute teachers throughout the school year when needed. They will be paid the regular substitute teacher rate.

According to the Ohio State Board of Education website: “Temporary Non-Bachelor’s Substitute Teaching License is available for candidates who do not hold a post-secondary degree but meet the employing school or district’s set of educational requirements to serve in the role of a substitute teacher. This license may be issued only at the request of the employing Ohio school or district. It is valid for teaching in any assigned class of any subject area and grade level. Applicants must have current background checks on file with the State Board of Education.”

Superintendent Christopher DiLoreto said,  “The substitutes will be used when needed for any grade level. Last year we only used one non-degreed substitute teacher.”

    OTHER ACTION:

    • Approved the purchase of one 30-passenger school bus from Myers Equipment Corporation in Canfield for $89,514.

UP NEXT: Meets at 5 p.m. Sept. 17 at Jackson High School.
