Library of Virginia to Bring Mobile Programming Van to South County Library in Roanoke

The Library of Virginia will bring its mobile programming van, LVA On the Go, to the Roanoke County Public Library’s South County Library, 6303 Merriman Road, Roanoke, VA, on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 12 to 4 p.m.

LVA On the Go, which debuted last year, is continuing its statewide tour in 2024, bringing some of the Library’s vast resources and programming across the Commonwealth. The visits are designed to increase awareness of the Library’s collections and resources and strengthen ties to the community.

Attendees at the South County Library can register for a Library account, discuss regional and family history and discover research and educational materials from the Library of Virginia. There will also be Library staff presentations and activities as follows:

12 p.m. – Genealogy 101 (beginner family history research)

1 p.m. – Virginia Chronicle (the Library’s online newspaper database)

3 p.m. – Remaking Virginia (the post-Civil War Reconstruction era in Virginia)
