All three Tennessee General Assembly election races that affect Hawkins County will be contested either in the Aug. 1 state primary and/or the Nov. 5 state election.

The deadline to qualify for the Aug. 1 election was Thursday at noon.

Incumbent District 4 State Sen. Jon Lundberg, R-Bristol, will be challenged for the Republican nomination by Kingsport pharmacist Bobby Harshbarger in the Aug. 1 primary.

The winner of the District 4 Republican primary will be challenged in the Nov. 5 state general election by Independent Dalia M. Price of Rogersville.

District 4 represents all of Sullivan and Hawkins counties.

Incumbent District 9 Rep. Gary Hicks, R-Rogersville, is being challenged for the Republican nomination in the Aug. 1 state primary by Richard “Dale” Parker, of Harrogate.

There are no Democrats or Independents seeking this seat, so the winner of the Republican primary will move on the Nov. 5 general election uncontested.

District 9 represents the western two-thirds of Hawkins County, all of Hancock County, and a section of Claiborne County.

Incumbent District 3 Rep. Timothy Hill, R-Kingsport, is uncontested in the Aug. 1 primary. He will be challenged in the Nov. 5 general election by Democrat Lori Love of Kingsport. Love is uncontested for the Democratic nomination in the Aug. 1 primary.

District 3 represents the eastern one-third of Hawkins County, all of Johnson County, and sections of Sullivan and Carter counties.

    County Races

Aug. 1 is also the county general election, but all seats on the ballot are uncontested.

Republican Amy Skelton of Surgoinsville is the lone candidate for Juvenile Judge.

Republican Michael Gillespie of Rogersville is the lone candidate for Property Assessor.

Independent Rolando “Roy” Benavides of Mount Carmel is the lone candidate for District 1 school board.

Republican Chris Christian of Church Hill is the lone candidate for District 2 school board.

Republican Beth Trent-Metz of Rogersville is the lone candidate for District 5 school board.

Republican Bobby Lee Jinks of Bulls Gap is the lone candidate for District 7 County Commissioner.

    RCS BOE primary

Incumbent Republicans Carol Gibson and Reed Matney are running uncontested for the two Rogersville City School Board of Educations seats on the Aug. 1 Municipal Primary Ballot.

No Democrats or Independents are seeking these seats, so Gibson and Matney will be uncontested in the Nov. 5 general election as well.
