    Rec League Notes: Rogersville gearing up for ‘Summer of Fun'

    ROGERSVILLE — The Rogersville Parks and Recreation Department is gearing up for its second annual “Summer of Fun,” a series of community events that’ll run from May 18 through Aug. 3.

    Included this year are a host of sports activities, including several returning favorites from the inaugural Summer of Fun lineup. The lineup includes a youth golf clinic, June 6; disc golf, June 8; a homerun derby, June 22; wiffleball, June 29; kickball and 3-on-3 basketball, July 4; Guys & Dolls Golf Night, July 12; beach volleyball, July 13; and pickleball, July 27.

    There’ll be weekly moonlight swims every Friday from 8-11 p.m. from June through August; Aquafit classes on Tuesdays at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 10 a.m. in June and July; a summer kids camp, July 8-12; a pickleball social league on Thursdays at 6 p.m. in June and July; and yoga in Crockett Spring Park on Saturdays at 10 a.m. from June 8 through Aug. 3.

    There’ll also be weekend programs and live music at various times throughout the summer.

    Kingsport hosting Family Fun Night

    KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Family Fun Night event on May 11 from 6-8 p.m. at the Kingsport Miracle Field (2021 Brickyard Park Drive). The theme of this year’s event is “Happy Fiesta!”

    Families of all ages are welcome to attend and enjoy playing yard games and kickball on the field’s flat, rubberized surface. The facility’s all-accessible playground will be open, music will be playing, and food trucks will be on hand in case you’re hungry. The event is free, and all equipment will be provided.     Rogersville adds second night of small weight cardio

    ROGERSVILLE — Rogersville Parks and Recreation and ACEcertified trainer Neal Ewing are now offering MovingU Fitness small weight cardio classes on Monday and Thursday nights from 6-7 p.m. through June 3 at the Rogersville City Park stage.     ‘Champions of the Court’ underway in Kingsport

    KINGSPORT — Kingsport Parks and Recreation is hosting a Champions of the Court pickleball event, where players will compete to see who has the best paddle skills on the court.

    The three-week event will run Mondays through June 17 with all games played at the Riverview Park Pickleball Courts from 6-8 p.m. each day. The cost is $5 per person per week, and the event is open to 20 players per week. Participants must be ages 14 and up.

    There are two divisions — one for beginner/intermediate players and the other for advanced players. Beginner/intermediate players will play on May 20 and June 10, while advanced players will play on May 13, June 3 and June 17.

    Players will be matched randomly and at the end of the event, the top two players from each division will face off on June 24 for the championship game. Prizes will be awarded to the winning team.     Allandale hosting Yoga at the Mansion

    KINGSPORT — Allandale Mansion will host “Yoga Dance on the Front Lawn” on May 16 from 11 a.m. to noon. The class incorporates elements of dance (Latin and some ballet) with exercisescience based yoga. Enjoy a fullbody workout, including flexion and extension of the spine, upper body, core and legs. Eccentric and isometric exercises will be emphasized.

    The last 15-20 minutes of the session will be restorative in nature and mostly focused on mat work. The session will conclude with a relaxation period.

    The cost is $8 per person; class size is limited to 20 people. Participants must be ages 8 and up and all levels are welcome to attend. Wear exercise clothing and bring your own mat and water bottle.

    Deadline to sign up for outdoor volleyball leagues is May 17

    KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registration for its 2024 Outdoor Volleyball League through May 17. The season begins the week of May 28. All games will be played at Legion Field (next to the Civic Auditorium) on Fort Henry Drive.

    Leagues offered include: 12U Youth Triples, 13U/14U Youth Triples, Women’s Triples, Men’s Doubles, Coed Doubles, Coed Quads and Senior Coed Quads (50+).

    The registration cost is $30 for doubles, $45 for triples and $60 for quads. There is a $2 nonresident fee for anyone who lives outside the city limits.     Rogersville City Pool taking reservations

    ROGERSVILLE — The Rogersville City Pool is currently accepting reservations for private pool parties. Call the office at 423-272-2545 for details and to book. Reservations go fast.

    Kingsport Aquatic Center has season passes available

    KINGSPORT — The Kingsport Aquatic Center has season passes available for purchase. The passes entitle visitors to use the indoor pools and outdoor water park during the summer season. The outdoor water park will open the weekend of May 18-19 and then be open daily from May 25 through Aug. 2. From Aug. 3 through Sept. 1, the outdoor water park will be open on the weekends with the last day of operation being Sept. 2.

    Season pass holders and Kingsport Aquatic Center members get early access to the outdoor water park 30 minutes before the regular opening time (except on Sundays). Season pass prices are $100 for the Lil’ Splasher (under 48”), $125 for the Bigger Splasher (48” and taller), and $100 for the Master Splasher (ages 55 and older). A Splash Pack (good for a four-person household) is $250 (with $15 added for each additional person within the same household).

    Outdoor water park hours will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; 11 a.m.-6 p.m., Wednesday and Saturday; and noon to 6 p.m., Sunday.
