    RCS Lady Warriors win Run for the Hills title

    BRISTOL — For the first time in school history, the Rogersville City Lady Warriors won the middle school girls team championship at the Run for the Hills cross country meet at South Holston Dam.

    RCS placed four runners in the top 10 and all five scorers in the top 20 to finish with 38 points to outdistance second-place Providence Academy (98) and third-place John Sevier (101) in the field of 21 large and small school teams. RMS finished at No. 19 in the girls team standings.

    Providence Academy’s Ryan Belt won the middle school girls race with a time of 8:52.40. RCS’ Lilla Harrell was second in the field of 203 female middle school runners with a time of 9:03.70. Anna Mae Boyd came in fifth (9:51.00), Elin Bryan sixth (9:52.60) and Paisley Lawson ninth (9:57.70) for RCS. Madeline Webb rounded out the Lady Warriors’ scoring at 17th in a time of 10:25.00.

    Surgoinsville’s Gracie Christian finished 13th with a time of 10:14.90. RMS’ Sarah Ward finished 24th with a time of 10:48.20.

    Other Hawkins County runners in the middle school girls field included RCS’ Olivia Sacharnoski, 42nd (11:08.20), RCS’ Maddy Tackett, 82nd (12:18.20), RMS’ Oliva Mathes, 98th (12:45.00), SMS’ Shailynn Goins, 160th (15:20.10), RMS’ Abigail Castle, 162nd (15:28.30); RMS’ Stephanie Campbell, 164th (15:36.30); Emily Ward, 192nd (18:24.80).

    Robinson’s Blain Warner won the middle school boys race with a time of 8:08.50. RMS’ Travis Wade was the county’s top male finisher in fourth place with a time of 8:36.70. Surgoinsville’s Brody Case also cracked the top 25 in the 242-runner field, finishing 24th in a time of 9:12.90.

    The Robinson boys finished with 36 points to win the boys team title. The RMS boys finished No. 13 out of 19 teams. The RCS and SMS boys teams did not have enough runners to compete as a team.

    RMS’ Justin Bradley ran a season’s best 9:44.70 to finish at No. 42. RCS’ Ryder Emmett and Carter Taylor finished back-to-back at Nos. 62 and 63 with times of 10:10.20 and 10:10.50, respectively. Other Hawkins County runners in the middle school boys field included SMS’ Levi Barrett, 79th (10:28.70); RMS’ Owen Harris, 130th (11:22.80); RMS’ Sawyer Harris, 135th (11:36.20); RMS’ Alex Goins, 138th (11:39.00); RMS’ Lincoln Harris, 186th (12:56.20); and RMS’ Eli Potter, 241st (18:36.50).

    RCS and Hawkins Elementary had three participants in the elementary division at Run for the Hills, where they competed in an 800-meter cross country run. All three finished in the top 20. The Little Warriors included RCS runners Tayen Looney, who finished 11th out of 82 boys with a time of 3:22.63, and Juliet Sacharnoski, who finished ninth out of 68 girls with a time of 3:35.21. Jemma Allen represented Hawkins Elementary and finished 20th with a time of 3:50.94.

    RCS, RMS and SMS will be back in action Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the Terry Hull Classic at the Clyde Austin 4-H Center in Greeneville. Boys begin at 4 p.m., followed by the girls at 4:30 p.m. RCS, RMS and SMS will also compete Saturday, Aug. 31, at the Bluegrass XC Night Classic at Johnson City’s Civitan Park. The middle school girls begin at 7:30 p.m. followed by the middle school boys at 8 p.m. and the high school races at 9 and 9:30 p.m.
