The Selma Police Department is investigating a shooting incident Wednesday night involving a 16-year-old victim.

Chief Kenta Fulford said officers responded to the call of a gunshot victim in the area of Woodrow Avenue and Citizens Parkway.

“When officers arrived, they found a 16-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the head,” Fulford said Friday morning. “He was taken by ambulance to Vaughan Regional Medical Center where he was airlifted to UAB Hospital. The victim is not deceased; however, he is in critical condition.”

Other media outlets have reported that the victim was brain dead, but Fulford would not comment on the record about that at this time.

Fulford did not disclose how the suspects arrived or left the scene and what led to the shooting incident.

“We do not have a motive at this time,” Fulford said.

Fulford encouraged anyone with information on the incident to contact the Selma Police Department at (334) 876-1260.
