    Flood warning issued as rains pummel northern Schuylkill

    SHENANDOAH – Borough streets crews and first responders have been busy in northern Schuylkill has heavy rains from the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby hit the area.

    The National Weather Service at State College issued a flood warning for Schuylkill County until 3pm.

    The weather service said between one and two inches of rain had already received in the county and an additional one to two inches is possible.

    Minor street flooding was reported on East Washington Street near the Capitol Food Store at midday. A borough streets crew unclogged a storm drain and the flooding dissipated.

    West Mahanoy Township firefighters also handled a tree down on the Gold Star Highway south of Shenandoah.

    Hundreds of PPL Electric Utilities customers in northern Schuylkill are without power as of 1:30pm as well. The village of Weston Place — 82 customers — is out due to weather with no repair estimate.

    The patches between Mahanoy City, Shenandoah, and Gilberton, including Ellen Gowen, Patriotic Hill, Maple Hill, Saint Nicholas, and Coles Patch are also out. About 90 customers are impacted with a repair time estimated by 6pm Friday.

    About 100 customers in Fountain Springs along Malones Road and east on Fountain Street are also affected with no repair estimate.

    In the Ringtown Valley, 225 customers east of Ringtown and north of Brandonville are out, as are 76 customers along Millers Road and Croll Road south of Nuremberg.
