SHENANDOAH – The head of Aqua Pennsylvania’s Central Pennsylvania region spoke at Monday night’s borough council meeting about what the company has done since they acquired Shenandoah’s water system a year ago.

Aqua closed on the Municipal Authority of the Borough of Shenandoah system last July.

Stephen Draus, Area Manager for Aqua, said the company has invested $3 Million so far across the system.

That work has included the replacement of the water main serving Raven Run, maintenance work at the dams, and a leak survey that has identified 30 leaks.

“We like to invest in our systems,” Draus said. “We plan to do a lot of work in this community.”

He said that, over the next two decades, “we’ll be replacing pretty much most of the pipe in the community.”

Council President Joe Boris mentioned roads and coordinating with the company so that newly-paved roads aren’t immediately ripped apart for utility work.

“We have so much work here to do, so, wherever you go now, until we get to it, we can work around it,” Draus said.

Councilman Joe Gawrylik asked about Aqua planning to start system repairs in the west end of the system, moving eastward towards Shenandoah.

“We’ve seen that the system is in worse shape going towards Girardville. We’re probably going to focus on that area first,” Draus said. “Within a few years, we’ll be here [in Shenandoah.]”
