South Carolina senior wide receiver Ahmari Huggins-Bruce’s future with the Gamecocks is in doubt.

The Dillon High grad, who transferred from Louisville to South Carolina in December, was not at the Gamecocks’ practice on Tuesday or Wednesday, per a team source.

When asked Wednesday afternoon if Huggins-Bruce was still on the team, South Carolina offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains declined to answer, saying: “Coach Beamer will handle all roster questions.”

When asked later about Huggins-Bruce’s status, a team spokesperson said the same thing.

Internet and social rumors sprung up on Tuesday night of the possibility of Huggins-Bruce leaving USC to return to Louisville, but that has not been confirmed.

Huggins-Bruce was still listed on USC’s online roster as of Wednesday afternoon.

The 5-foot-11, 180-pound South Carolina native arrived on campus in January but has not yet carved out a major role within the wide receiver room.

Huggins-Bruce was one of five transfer wide receivers to join South Carolina this offseason, in a group with Jared Brown (Coastal Carolina), Gage Larvadain (Miami Ohio), Vandrevius Jacobs (Florida State) and Dalevon Campbell (Nevada).

Via tidbits from watching practice and interviews with coaches, the other four transfers were higher on the depth chart than Huggins-Bruce.

South Carolina scrimmaged Saturday and players were off Sunday and Monday. Huggins-Bruce was at Saturday’s scrimmage, the team source said.

At Louisville last season, he played in all 13 games, catching 20 passes for 312 yards and 4 touchdowns. This was supposed to be his final year of eligibility, but he could redshirt and finish his college career in 2025.

The speculation around Huggins-Bruce’s spot on the Gamecocks comes just a day after quarterback Davis Beville told the media he was recently put on scholarship. When asked if Beville’s scholarship put South Carolina at the maximum number of 85, head coach Shane Beamer was coy.

“As far as the 85, I’ll keep that between us as far as where our scholarship numbers are,” Beamer said Tuesday.
