The Tennessee Titans waived nine players Monday off their active roster , two with injury designations, ahead of the NFL's deadline to trim the roster to 53 players by 3 p.m. CT Tuesday.

The nine players waived were: OL Brian Dooley, CB Tay Gowan, ILB Mikel Jones, OLB Thomas Rush, WR Sam Schnee, TE Steven Stilianos, P Ty Zentner, LB JoJo Domann and WR Tre'Shaun Harrison. Domann and Harrison were waived with injury designations based on injuries suffered during training camp.

Zentner was the team's primary punter for the last month of the 2023 season, filling in for the injured Ryan Stonehouse. Zentner also handled the team's punting and holding responsibilities across the first two preseason games, but Stonehouse cleared his final hurdle by punting in the preseason finale Sunday, which signaled enough that the Titans didn't need an insurance punter around.

Dooley, Schnee and Stilianos were undrafted rookies. Rush and Harrison were undrafted rookies in the Titans' 2023 class who hung around on the practice squad last season. Domann and Gowan were veteran midseason pickups in 2023 signed to help as injuries ravaged the defense, and Jones, signed just days ago, served a similar role during training camp this year.

The Titans have more cuts to make in the coming hours. Per NFL rules, they have to get their active roster down to 53 players by the Tuesday deadline, and by Wednesday they'll be allowed to assemble their practice squad of 16 or 17 players. That means at the most generous, the Titans need to cut ties with roughly 10 more players and relegate nearly 30 more to either being cut outright, designated for injury or on to the practice squad.
